Kaleidoscope, Phew!! and Foothill Sign Development Deal For Environment Themed Snapper
(Cannes--16 April 2007) Santa Barbara based Foothill Entertainment, Inc. and Toronto's Kaleidoscope Entertainment, Inc. ("KEI") announced the signing of a co-development agreement with UK creators Phew!! Ltd. for the environmentally themed series Snapper. Created by Phew founders Guy Hallifax, Ian Ellery and Mick Wells, Snapper is set on the Amazon-like Maricombo River and follows the exploits of mischievous little alligator, Snapper, as he explores the unique environment that makes up his jungle community. Being raised by his adoptive parents, Akimbo the monkey and McCaw, the old parrot, Snapper is as curious about life up and down the river as he is in having good old fashioned fun. To be animated by Malaysia's Vision Animation, the series highlights the rich but fragile life in the jungle.
"We are very excited to be involved with this series. To bring fun and entertaining projects to kids that also heightens awareness of the environment at an impressionable age seems to us to be long overdue," says KEI President Randy Zalken.
Said co-creator Guy Hallifax, "Snapper has been a pet project of ours for some time, just waiting for the right time and the right partners. Clearly with all of the mounting interest worldwide in environmental issues such as global warming and the deforestation of the Amazon Basin, its time has come."
While still a fun and entertaining series, the show will incorporate environmentally aware themes such as alternative fuels and sustainable living. The CGI series will centre on the animal community in which young Snapper lives, the residents of which are more aware than most of the impact that even the smallest actions can have, sometimes good, sometimes bad, on the world in which they live. Designed from the outset with internet and mobile applications in mind, Snapper is intended to entertain, stimulate and inform young viewers in a variety of media.
"Snapper has been a favourite project of ours," says Foothill President Jo Kavanagh-Payne. "We have been developing it slowly and deliberately with the creators at Phew. This is why it is particularly rewarding to bring a partner of Kaleidoscope's caliber into the mix to push it forward."
Founded in September 2000 by former DIC Entertainment executive vice president of business and legal affairs, Gregory Payne and Jo Kavanagh-Payne, former Link Television Entertainment, Inc senior vice president of U.S. operations, Foothill specializes in the co-development and distribution of children's and family entertainment programming. Their company is based in Santa Barbara, California.
Kaleidoscope Entertainment Inc. is an established, diversified and independent Canadian entertainment company, founded in 1982. Over the years KEI has expanded from television
